Growing up in a small town, Holmes didn’t have the resources or the opportunities that many young athletes take for granted. His mother couldn’t afford to put him on a team, so he played pickup games in the Atlanta housing complex where he lived. When he finally got his chance to play organized football, he was, in his own words, “horrible.”
But Holmes didn’t quit. He couldn’t quit. Football wasn’t just a game to him—it was a dream, a lifeline, a calling. And so, he kept grinding. Through injuries, illnesses, and setbacks, he kept showing up. He kept believing. And slowly, surely, he began to shine.
“I’ve always loved football,” Holmes said. “But it wasn’t until I faced all those challenges that I realized how much it meant to me. It’s like a diamond—you don’t know how strong you are until you’re under pressure.”
That pressure has shaped Holmes into the athlete—and the man—he is today. Now, as the inaugural athlete for AthleteGEM’s™ NIL Signature Natural Diamond Initiative, Holmes is ready to share his story with the world.
